Oh Deer Korean Fusion – Revisited

Shop 24
239 Bourke Street (Tivoli Arcade)
Melbourne VIC 3000

Back when I visited the restaurant early April on a Thursday night, it was empty. The menu was a single A3-sized sheet, which was easy enough to read. An iPad was also provided with pictures of the dishes, but no actual description of what they were. As for the food, the only thing that stood out in my mind the most were the coconut beef ribs, however everything else was subpar.

Oh Deer have since switched hands in management and had a menu change and we were invited to try their new menu items.

Came on a Friday night, and what a surprising change because it was busy packed with people waiting to be seated! So different from when my partner and I was here last.

Lychee Punch & Strawberry Punch Mocktail ($7 each)

We really liked the lychee one. Our only complaint was the fruit bits kept getting stuck in the straw and we also felt it was a waste to not be able to eat the fruit at the bottom of the glass.

Refreshing, fruity & not too sweet. 7/10

Deerest Topokki Dice- Carbonara ($8.50)

Cheesy, chewy rice cake & an interesting dish to start. 7/10

Oh Deer Mini Burger – Soft Shell Crab ($7.50 each)

Came with a massive pickle, a good portion of soft shell crab, lettuce and a spicy mayo sauce.

Light-battered crab, well-balanced flavours & presented well. 9/10

OXXO ($18)

Basically ox tongue stir-fried in a dark sauce. My partner and I both agreed this dish was so GOOD.

Moreish, good veg to meat ratio & delicious. 10/10

Molten Cheesy Pot – American pork ribs w/ Korean-style steamed egg, sweet potato puree, sweet corn salad & topokki dices ($50)

Couldn’t wait to dig in but clearly had to wait for the cheese to melt first.

WHY CHEESE NO STICK TO MEAT?!

Clearly we looked like idiots because the waitress stepped in and showed us how it’s done shortly after that picture was taken.

Looks much better!

Cheesy melty goodness, heaps of variety in one pot & OMG RIBS. 9/10

Overall, in comparison to out first visit, we were definitely much happier and satisfied with our dining experience

My second experience at Oh Deer was:
– Attentive staff
– New menu a welcoming hit
– Much improved experience

Food: 8/10
Service: 9/10
Ambience: 8/10
